CBU / CVU

The 22-digit account identifiers used to route peso transfers in Argentina, for bank and wallet accounts respectively.

CBU (Clave Bancaria Uniforme) identifies a traditional bank account in Argentina, while CVU (Clave Virtual Uniforme) identifies a virtual wallet account held at a licensed non-bank payments provider such as Mercado Pago. Both are 22-digit codes that work interchangeably on Argentina's interbank transfer network.

Fintech lenders in Argentina disburse and collect loan payments through a borrower's CBU or CVU, which is why online lenders almost always request one during the application. A CVU-only wallet, opened with just a DNI, is often enough to receive a loan without a traditional bank account.
